Can anyone tell me why the ACS superintendent is not a resident of the city of Ashland? That was part of his hiring acceptance, I have heard that we are paying some sort of storage fees for him.

Angel, ACSD is indeed paying storage fees and the contract only says he should attempt to relocate. If he does relocate there is a clause for reimbursement of up to $12,500. His contract is actually on our website and is straight from the school district.

Angel, I have to modify my last post. The contract states the superintendent must relocate within 6 months of the contract. Then there is an amendment that states he is encouraged to relocate and that if he does so by September of 2008 he will be reimbursed the relocation amounts of up to $12,500. You can look at them at www.caofac.org and on the left hand side drop down menu select "School Boards 101" and the "Ashland City Schools". You will see his contract and the amendment to his contract. I think you will get your eyes open with his contract. Pretty interesting reading.

I remember when this was a bone of contention with another superintendent. I don't want to name the name as I do not have the public record. However, I do remember he would "rent" a space in the an employees house during the week and that is how he "got" around this. It appears Superintendents do not live within the district they serve much anymore and this could be because the average tenure is about 3 years. Now the other side is having to relocate a family can be a problem.

Am I correct that the Supt.of Ashland County-West Holmes lives out of the county? As does the Director of Adult Education, correct? How many other Supts. of other schools live out of county? If this is not a problem, then why do the boards put it in the contract for them to relocate to the district? I guess it would seem logical to relocate your family if you indeed are interested in employment elsewhere, however as time changes things to be done differently, then this maybe should not be included in the contract. Just a question, not complaining, trying to understand previous posts.

Ormand, you are correct. If living in the district is not going to be upheld, then don't put it in the contract. As far as I am concerned, Mr. Robinson was in breech of contract when he failed to relocate within the alloted time in the contract but instead they just turned around and did an amendment. I believe if you wish to be in an administrative position in a school district you should live in that district. That is not any different than candidates running for office having to live in the area they are seeking office in. It seems if you are in admin you would desire to be living in the district and contributing, not just drawing from the tax base.

Thanks, Whirled Peas because I am behind times here but won't be now. I still feel when most lawyers get together, logic and what is right goes out the window. Now where is my carpet bag and when is the next meeting of United World Carpetbaggers ?
