>:(I have filed a claim for service connected death through the Ashland County Veteran's Services. Unfortunately, this case has been being handled by a person in this office who has a close relationship with one of the Commissioners. After receiving a denial from the VA, I went into the Veteran's Services and found that they had received a document months ago that would have settled this claim with an approval in all likelihood (this is a statement from a counselor at the main 800 line for the VA) but this document was NEVER submitted to the VA or to myself. I was not even notified this document had been received. I would have never known this document existed had I not gone into the office and seen it in the file. I am livid that this occurred and will likely occur again if this person continues to work there.

Upon contacting the State Veteran's Services, they have decided that this deserves some looking into to make sure the Veteran's and their families in Ashland County are being properly served by ALL of the representatives in the Veteran's Service Office in Ashland County. I hope they are able to make certain this type of thing does not happen to another veteran or their family.

I would like to think that it was simply a mistake but looking at this a bit closer, I am not sure. The more I learn about Ashland County Politics, the more I think it is considered a fiefdom by those close to the throne or on it. I think the powers to be feel like the English monarch who, while her subjects were starving in the streets, said: let them eat cake!

I do not for one second believe this to be a mistake or overlooked by the person I am speaking of. In fact I was directly told that they did not feel this document was relevant so did not send it to the VA. I do not know of anyone that had the interest of their client at heart that would withhold a document whether they felt it relevant or not. You send in everything you can and let the VA decide what is or what is not relevant. I believe this is just another example of the sloppy way our county is run. In fact, I am not too sure but this was a major conflict of interest from the start considering I have been coming up against the Commissioners and have been coming up against the Commissioner that this person has a personal relationship with since before the claim was filed. I did not know at that time of the relationship or I would not have permitted this person to have had anything to do with my claim.
