Did anyone notice on page A 8 of todays T-G what the mayor had to say about Finance Director appointment? "There are candidates but he's not going to share them." I really think that the people paying this salary (tax payers) should know who they are. I for one am glad this will remain an ELECTED position.

Yes indeed, Inquisitive. I'm elated that the finance director's position will remain an elected office. It's the only shot we have at making sure the same old people, from the same old circles, don't keep getting the same old jobs.

Whirled Peas, agreed. The same old "family" getting the same old positions, such as 2 family members holding 2 of 3 trustee seats in Jackson Township. If the recount or provisional ballot count does not prevent it from happening, look at the possibilities for the county. If the 2 family members both have to abstain from vote that leaves the township without a quorum which would then mean that the issue at hand would have to go to the courts for the court to decide the outcome. More taxpayers money down the drain so that ONE family can continue to run Ashland County. Come on citizens, this is a community not a commune. Let's get some other people on these boards.

duly noted and recorded in the memory bank in my cranium. a lot of times people don't recall what has happened and "go with the flow", it is only when they sit back and it hits them like a ton of bricks and it is a bit late to react, it's done. I prefer a straight line as opposed to a circle, that way when you go backwards you don't end up going in circles around and around making you dizzy trying to find the beginning of the question you were looking for the answer to.

I need to talk about the good 'ole boys club. this is whack so try to follow along. not too long ago an ad was placed in the T-G for the City of Ashland, the position was (is) for the Director of Human Resources. as I know some folks who may have qualified one put a resume in for this position. the only thing that may have held this applicant up is they don't get their B.A. until May of next year, college senior majoring in Human Resources,Business Management and a minor in Business Law, local resident. this person was born and raised here, now not too sure if they want to come back after graduation. here goes the whack part. I now have a letter to this applicant stating that "This position has now been filled." so what you might say, they found someone more qualified. here is the kicker, the letter is dated and postmarked 11-16-09 signed by the Human Resources Director, this position is not filled! there was an executive meeting on 11-17-09 with a reccomendation for this position by the mayor, well it was not approved by council, thus this position is still open. why was this letter sent to people? my only guess is, somebody had someone in mind all along. from a phone conversation with an elected official I was informed that the person the mayor reccomended was from another city and the council wants someone local, good for the city council. bottom line is, why was this letter sent out before discussion with council?
